COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST

Range 15, Non-Exempt, Full-time classified position. Minimum Salary: $16.27 per hour; Maximum Salary: 23.98 per hour. Actual salary DOE.

DESCRIPTION: Under close to general supervision, provides a link between citizens in need of assistance with police, fire and EMS services; prioritizes calls; coordinates and logs the activities associated with providing such service; dispatches appropriate emergency personnel; accesses and provides information transfer to and from field units where telephone or an ACJIS terminal is required; provides emergency communications in the form of 9-1-1 services to the City of Cottonwood and surrounding communities; enters and maintains warrants; and performs related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; must be able to multi-task such as typing while answering phones; must be able to visually observe and interpret data displayed on multiple dispatch computer monitors comprised of several windows per monitor; required to reach with hands and arms; must be able to hear radio and telephone conversations at an appropriate level so as to not cause radio interference; must possess the ability to communicate clearly when speaking.

  • Work various shift hours such as 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts
  • Must be able to work day, swing, or night shift, weekends, and holidays

    INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN I

    This is a non-exempt, full-time, classified position with full benefits. Range 19, Minimum of Range (Expected Hiring Salary): $19.78/hr; Maximum of Range: $29.15.

    DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision by the Information Technology Manager (I.T.M.), is responsible for providing technical solutions in support of software and hardware, operating systems, advanced PC applications, and Internet and website services. Detailed knowledge of local and wide area network hardware and software, demonstrating knowledge of network technology, including server and workstation configuration, operating system installation, and maintenance.

    LATERAL POLICE OFFICER

    Lateral Police Officer: Range 20, Non-exempt, Full-Time, Classified Position, full benefits; Anticipated Starting Salary: $20.77/hr; Maximum of Salary Range: $30.61/hr. AZPost Certified Officers will receive and additional 5% above base salary, plus 1% per year of experience, up to a total of 5%.

    Reserve Police Officer: Volunteer position: No compensation; no benefits.

    DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision of a Police Sergeant, provides law enforcement services to the citizens of Cottonwood and surrounding areas; and performs related duties as assigned. The Cottonwood Police Department will conduct testing for the positions of Police Officer and Reserve Police Officer to fill vacancies. Certified Officers (Laterals) are encouraged to apply and may receive up to 10% increase over minimum starting wage, depending on experience.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work involved in this classification includes full time law enforcement activities including, but not limited to standing and/or walking for extended periods, short sprints, long pursuit running lasting over 2 minutes, running up and down stairs, pushing heavy objects such as vehicles, jumping over and around obstacles, lifting and carrying objects sometimes up and down stairs, using hands and feet in use of force situations, performance of appropriate defensive tactics and suspect control techniques, using force in short and long term (greater than 2 minutes) efforts, bending and reaching, dragging people and objects as in extracting victims from vehicles.

    PHYSICAL TESTING MINIMUM STANDARDS- Peace Officer Physical Aptitutde Test (P.O.P.A.T)

    • 99-Yard Obstacle Course (tested twice)
    • 165-pound body drag (32 feet) (tested twice)
    • Solid-Fence Climb (6ft.) (tested twice)
    • Chain-Link Fence Climb (6ft.) (tested twice)
    • 500-Yard Run (tested once)
    • Applicants seeking employment with the Cottonwood Police Department as a cadet/recruit officer must attain 345 cumulative points in order to pass the physical fitness requirement. Applicants who qualify as laterals per AZ P.O.S.T. rules or are currently certified must attain the minimum of 384 cumulative points. Scores will be computed from the times obtained from the above listed events.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have an equivalent of a high school diploma or GED, be 21 years of age upon completion of the police academy, no felony convictions, successfully complete the Arizona P.O.S.T. minimum certification requirements including a background questionnaire investigation and interview, polygraph examination, psychological test, medical examination and controlled substance screening. Must possess the ability to be clearly understood when speaking. **Note**Police Officers must meet the requirements of Cottonwood Police Department General Order 205 General Appearance. Specifically section B Figure 2.6 and 2.7 which state that officers will display no body piercing (with limited exceptions for female employees) and no visible tattoos (tattoos on arms may be covered with long sleeves at all times).

    LIFEGUARD PART-TIME

    Minimum $8.20 per hour

    DESCRIPTION: Under direction from the Head Lifeguard, the Aquatics Center Supervisor or the Recreation Manager, the Lifeguard will assist patrons using the Recreation Center water facilities. The primary function of an employee in this class is to teach swimming and water safety skills; to monitor public use of the swimming pool area, including performing in rescue, emergency, and first aid situations; answer inquiries from the public; and perform cleaning and sanitation duties. Additionally, an employee in this class assists in class and event registration and operations. May perform other duties as assigned.

    CLASSIFICATION: This is a part-time, hourly position with no benefits.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to work in an indoor or outdoor aquatic environment that may include working in temperatures up to 110 degrees, in adverse weather conditions, and while exposed to allergenic substances.
    • Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to sit for up to 40 minutes per rotation on a lifeguard chair or station, and be able to climb a ladder to reach the station.
    • Sufficient clarity of hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern emergency situations, verbal instructions, and telephones.
    • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern emergency situations, discern colors, and comprehend written work instructions, and rules and regulations.
    • Sufficient sense of smell to be able to detect odors.
    • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to respond quickly in an emergency situation and operate control mechanisms and make fine adjustments.
    • Sufficient strength to swim 500 yards, demonstrating use of freestyle, breaststroke, and side stroke.
    • Sufficient body flexibility and balance to perform rescue and first aid operations and occupy a lifeguard station accessible by ladder.
    • Ability to work outside in summer months.

    HOURS:Must be able to work split shifts, weekdays, weekends and/or evenings as assigned.

    EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Must be able to obtain lifeguard, community first aid certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications. Also desirable, if requested: ability to obtain food handlerís card.

    PW MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I - PART-TIME

    This is a non-exempt, part-time (up to 29 hours/week), position with no benefits, except required Arizona State Retirement System participation. Hourly Rate: $12.69 per hour.

    DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision of the Public Works Manager, performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance and servicing of City buildings and parks; ball field maintenance, trims trees, mows grass, runs a ’weed eater’ around buildings and facilities; and performs related duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work involved in this classification includes the possibility for injury or harm to self and others due to the inappropriate use of equipment and tools. Work is sometimes performed outdoors during inclement weather. Duties will include climbing ladders, pushing/pulling, lifting various items and performing other general physical labor.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The equivalent of two (2) years’ experience in buildings and grounds maintenance, or related field. Must have valid Arizona driver’s license, and a High School diploma or GED equivalent by time of hire. Desired: irrigation experience.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to work holidays and weekends, and be on-call 24-hours per day, per the departmental on-call policy.

    Transportation Driver PART-TIME

    DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision of the Transportation Manager, provides public transportation to shopping centers, doctor’s offices, work, school, day care, etc. in a safe and timely manner; operates a city bus in accordance with city, state, and federal regulations; and performs related duties as assigned.

    CLASSIFICATION: This is a part-time, hourly position with no benefits. Salary: $12.76 per hour

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This classification involves light to heavy lifting and carrying due to passengers/parcels as required on and off the van wheelchair lift/ramp. This classification involves work driving transportation vehicles around the Verde Valley.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The equivalent of a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years driving multi-passenger commercial vehicles. The possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class C, with passenger endorsement is required or the ability to obtain within thirty (30) days upon employment offer. Must have or be able to obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance card.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS: All new hires for the Cottonwood Area Transit System department are required to pass a post-job offer, pre-employment drug test. All employees who work in the Cottonwood Area Transit System department will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

    VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER

    This is a non-exempt, volunteer position. This position is not eligible for benefits. $100 stipend per month.

    DESCRIPTION:Under general supervision of the Shift Captain, responds to emergency calls for assistance from the public and participates in fire suppression, emergency medical treatment, rescue, hazardous material incident mitigation and special operations; and performs related duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Work in this classification includes exposure to major hazards during the suppression and prevention of fires, mitigation of hazardous materials, emergency medical/rescue and disaster response. Must successfully complete job-related physical agility testing. Must pass medical physical by Fire Department physician.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. Requires valid Arizona State FF II certification (or valid IFSAC FF II certification) and current Arizona EMT certification. Also requires Hazardous Materials First Responder certification (meeting OSHA 1910.120 requirements). Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s license.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Current Arizona Paramedic certification. The equivalent of an associate’s degree from an accredited community college, college, or university with a major in fire science or related field. Fire apparatus operation training and experience. Bilingual in English/Spanish.
