Dan Lueder has worked in the water and wastewater industry for over thirty-three years. Starting out as a maintenance tech performing field repairs he obtained his first Water Supply Operators Certification in 1977 and soon after moved into water production and treatment. Throughout the years he has operated numerous types of ground and surface water systems along with a lesser amount of wastewater collection and treatment facilities. He also served as director of public works for Glenwood and Channahon Illinois from 1986 until 1993. In Channahon, Dan created their first public works department and coordinated the conversion to a centralized water and wastewater infrastructure. In 1993 he left his home on the south side of Chicago and moved his family to Flagstaff Arizona where he took a position as operations manager for the Coconino County public works department.

Upon accepting his current position with Cottonwood in September of 2004, Dan was tasked with merging the four private water companies the City purchased into a single municipal utility department which included creating a water division of the utility department along with hiring and training staff for that division. Dan also manages the City’s wastewater division and utility billing operation and served two years as chair of the City executive safety committee. During his career Dan has designed and put into operation more than 50 million dollars worth of capital projects and improvements.

Dan’s wife of thirty-one years Roberta is an obstetric nurse at Verde Valley Medical Center where she continues to pursue her love for delivering babies. They have two children, Danielle who is a neo-natal intensive care nurse at Flagstaff Medical Center and Zach who graduated from NAU in May.

Dan served for eight years as program chair for the Tristate Water and Wastewater Seminar providing training for utility operators in Arizona, Nevada and California. He has also served as an executive director for the Arizona Water Association. Among the awards he has received are:
